The Pow Wow Story

Image
Hope you’re ready, cause I’m gonna blow your mind with this one. Cause it’s time for another Lawrence Kansas story. Let’s start out with Haskell University. I remember like it was yesterday…or something like that. My family and I got together here in Lawrence and got to go to a Pow Wow festival. We were there from back in the day and it was exciting to watch. We heard the drumming and the singing during the ceremony. Ever wonder what Pow Wow music looks, hears, and feels like? Well… It’s  a gathering with dances held by many  Native American  and  First Nations   communities. Powwows today allow Indigenous people to socialize, dance, sing, and honor their cultures. Powwows may be private or public, indoors or outdoors. Dancing events can be competitive with monetary prizes. Powwows vary in length from single-day to weeklong events. And in Lawrence, they still do it every year. I remember that time when my family and I went there to see my friend Phillip ‘Bigg Ph...

Here’s November!

Remember, remember, the 5th of November Psyche! I’m just kidding. I don’t mean that, but I can tell you that this is my November issue. Here’s November! Have you ever tried the Thanksgiving turkey before? I have once! It all started back in the day when my entire family gathered together for a Thanksgiving dinner in Lawrence. We were really really hungry. My family and I had everything on the table. There was turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and peas, Mac and cheese, everything! We had a lot of fun spending time with each other and hanging out for Thanksgiving in Lawrence Kansas. It was a great year to celebrate. So I came up with something on my mind right now. What happened when downtown Lawrence held a Thanksgiving parade? Well, it doesn’t happen often in Lawrence. Why? Because next month in December, there’s a Christmas parade here. (But we’ll get to that later.) I can also tell you about the time I got to Free State and joined Mr. Andrew and friends for a Thanksgiving di...

October At Its Best

October At Its Best Well folks, it’s still autumn in Lawrence, the leaves in the trees are orange and red, and it’s that time of year again…Halloween. Oh man, you can't imagine how much fun I've had when I lived in Lawrence. And I gotta tell you guys, it was the best time I've had. Here's some stories that I wanna share with you in today's blog. I remember the time in downtown Lawrence there was a huge zombie walk that started from the Lawrence Community Building to roaming the streets downtown. I really enjoyed it a lot and filming the whole scene there and seeing Sellout perform songs on stage. If you haven't noticed just yet, I made videos about it and put it on YouTube years ago. One was with my puppet Buzzy on Halloween, and one with a fake movie trailer I made called 'Wake of the Dead'. In case you remember, here's the links. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtNYJRkgXXU&t=7s Buzzy's Halloween Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcUTI...
