My Future Thanksgiving Plans

Image
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. And today on my blog, we're gonna discuss some future plans for Thanksgiving when I return. But first, I'm gonna talk about the brief history of this traditional holiday. Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States, and Thanksgiving 2023 occurs on Thursday, November 23. In 1621, the Plymouth colonists from England and the Native American Wampanoag people shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. But the holiday is not without controversy. Many Americans—including people of Native American ancestry—believe Thanksgiving celebrations mask the true history of oppression and bloodshed that underlies the relat...

Bonus Blog: Thanksgiving Specials

Image
Thanksgiving Specials Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Here's a little something to stuff on your dish. There are many Thanksgiving specials we love to watch on TV here in Lawrence. I'll never forget the time I watched one of my favorite specials. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving It was a good special I love watching when I was a kid. I even remembered the time I kept reciting the special out loud when I was inside at home and even at school. Ms. Orth-Lopes didn't know there was a Peanuts Thanksgiving special on TV. I really love the lines in this one too. Peppermint Patty was incredible. Sometimes whenever we have something different for Thanksgiving, I would probably have some Thanksgiving snacks with our feast. And I thought I was gonna have pretzel sticks with toast and popcorn on a plate, but that would be just too silly. Because who would forget Thanksgiving without a turkey. I remember that time in Cordley, my class and I did a Thanksgiving play together while I was in sch...

Here’s November!

Remember, remember, the 5th of November Psyche! I’m just kidding. I don’t mean that, but I can tell you that this is my November issue. Here’s November! Have you ever tried the Thanksgiving turkey before? I have once! It all started back in the day when my entire family gathered together for a Thanksgiving dinner in Lawrence. We were really really hungry. My family and I had everything on the table. There was turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and peas, Mac and cheese, everything! We had a lot of fun spending time with each other and hanging out for Thanksgiving in Lawrence Kansas. It was a great year to celebrate. So I came up with something on my mind right now. What happened when downtown Lawrence held a Thanksgiving parade? Well, it doesn’t happen often in Lawrence. Why? Because next month in December, there’s a Christmas parade here. (But we’ll get to that later.) I can also tell you about the time I got to Free State and joined Mr. Andrew and friends for a Thanksgiving di...
