Cinco de Mayo!

Do you think that maybe it's probably time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Lawrence Kansas this time around? The answer is a big YES! If so, here's the scoop on that.

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner in the month of May. And when the time comes, it's time to celebrate. So let's review some ideas of what we can do that this special day. Here's what we might be thinking when I finally come back.

Idea #1:

Plan a special Cinco de Mayo themed block party in downtown Lawrence.

If I can think of a location to get the party going in Cinco de Mayo, it would probably be somewhere here at...

804 New Hampshire St. right next to Cieliti Lindo where it's temporarily closed. It was where my dad used to perform music there back in the day. And this is where I can finally get it all set up. And to do that, we need someone who can help me out on this. We need the music set up, a variety of foods and drinks such as tacos nachos, taquitos, quesadillas, and enchiladas, and the best part is salsa! I'll take the time to learn how to make my own salsa. Or at least buy some salsa at the store. In fact, I'll even get my friends to help on all of that, for the time being at least.

Idea #2:

A Cinco de Mayo party at Stephanie's house.

If I'd like to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Stephanie and David, her house is right there where you're looking at, and that is in Topeka Kansas.

Now this is another great idea that I was talking to her about while I was on my way home, and I agree. The foods, the Mexican soda, The Mexican Coca-Cola, etc. This is what I've been talking about. Even our friends will be there too. I swear to God it's gonna be lots of fun when I finally come back. Now this is another great idea to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We can even set up the music, hang out, play around, and even watch movies such as Vivo, Coco, Nacho Libre, Americano, or Scooby Doo and the Monster of Mexico. Now that would be extra fun to enjoy!

Idea #3:

A Cinco de Mayo party at my place.

There's even another way to celebrate, we can even do a Cinco de Mayo party when I'm finally moved into my new condo in Lawrence Kansas. I can even invite my friends that I know from back then and get everything all set up. Even the music. If I were to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Lawrence before the start of summer, I would begin by getting myself some Old El Paso at Dillon's, which is why I'm more familiar with the quality ingredients for tacos, fajitas, burritos, and tortillas. The toppings and seasonings are always one of a kind in every way.

Idea #4:

Go on a special dinner outing in Lawrence, Kansas City, or Topeka.

On a special time during Cinco de Mayo, we're thinking of going out to eat for dinner at a very special place to try out in the Kansas & Missouri area.

We have plenty of choices to think about. We could try Jorge's Cantina. Located in 837 SW Fairlawn Rd. in Topeka. We can enjoy some enchiladas with rice and refried beans. Or maybe try out some specialties on the menu with a diet cola.

There's another place to try out, this time when we visit Kansas City on our day to browse around and go shopping. La Fuente Mexican Street Food at 10932 Stadium Dr, Kansas City, KS 66111. It's located here at the Legends mall in KC. If I were to come here for the first time, I would try the barbacoa tacos with a Mexican cola with her. And you know what I really like on my speciality, I like mine with just steak, beef, and cheese on them with a side of rice. I would also try the Steak Tacos salad too on that day. I'd like mine with steak, beef, and cheese. That would be my favorite kind that I enjoy, just the way I like them. Stephanie and I would probably check that out this place in KC for the very first time when I come back.

Another joint I wanna try out for Cinco de Mayo. The other place I wanna try for a special dinner outing on May 5th is El Centenario. It's located here at 1306 S Kansas Ave. in Topeka. It's a casual restaurant doling out familiar Mexican offerings ranging from tacos to margaritas. It's a place that's run by the Zaragoza brothers and offers great authentic Mexican food served with pleasure, a smile and consistently Very Good (Muy Bueno). It's been serving Topeka for over 20 years. So that would be another cool place to try out someday. Heck, I would even enjoy an enchilada combo meal. And on special nights, there's some live music to enjoy or maybe some music from a DJ that we could jam to. It's kind of like the time "I left me wallet in El Segundo." HA! Funny! I kinda gotcha good on that one. Remember that song from the 90s?

Anywhere would've been better.  - A Tribe Called Quest

Anyways, those are the choices of the places I wanna try out for Cinco de Mayo the next time we celebrate this special time of day. Stephanie and I suggested a Cinco de Mayo block party in downtown Lawrence. And maybe she and I can have one at her place. I'm telling you right now on this one, Cinco de Mayo is gonna a great time to enjoy it in Lawrence once again. When I'm finally back, we're gonna get this all set up. Stephanie, I hope that you'll like my ideas so far cause it's gonna be fun.

🤩

Okay. Now that we got the ideas together, remember that Cinco de Mayo happens every year in May. And it celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. And while not a major holiday in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is widely observed in the U.S. full of parades, festivals, music, and traditional food. The celebration is also a way to honor and celebrate Mexican culture and heritage, often with the inclusion of traditional foods, music, and dance. And it’s important to note that Cinco de Mayo is not the same as Mexican Independence Day, which is on September 16th. See what I mean? And now you know.

Okay guys, time to wrap this up for now. If you love this blog about Cinco de Mayo, feel free to send me more ideas to celebrate it once I’m coming back to Lawrence. Anyway, that’s all for now. Check back later for another story coming at you real soon on the next Lawrence Kansas monthly blog. Catch you on the flip side!
