Places to Visit When I'm Back In Kansas
Hello there, welcome back to my monthly blog. So as you may know my move back to Lawrence Kansas has been delayed for two years. That's until the year 2027 or at least my folks made a decision in two weeks. That means we have until April 1st which my birthday is coming up. In the meantime, I'm gonna keep on writing my own stories on the upcoming blog until I'm ready to move back there. I'll keep you updated with more details as we get informed soon.
Anyway, on to the story. I just got another idea about a place in Topeka that I wanna visit when I'm finally back in Kansas. And trust me, this is one that I really wanna check out. It's something that Stephanie suggested to me and that is...
The Pennant!
Have you ever wondered what it's like to eat out at this place before? Well my friend, I’ll be happy to tell you about it. It's located in historical Topeka at 915 S Kansas Ave.
Okay, this place is the one that I wanna try out when I'm back in Kansas. I don't what to say about it but this is the good part. It's got really good food and famous milkshakes, timeless burgers and fries, and plenty of others.
There's also an arcade with tons of retro video games, pinball machines, and skeeball. Which is why I'm totally a pro at playing pinball! So are you ready for some football? Is your Purple Pride hard to hide? Can you wave the Wheat and Rock Chalk at the same time? Do you Back the Bods? The Pennant will have the games you want to see, with a great rotating beer selection. That's why The Pennant is also a place to watch football upstairs. That's called the Beer Garden.
It's also a bowling alley where bowling is definitely our jam! We can also head downstairs and jump on one of our four bowling alleys. Don't worry, we can always put the bumpers up if you need them. We can have a ball even if this isn't your Dad's bowling alley. It's got comfortable chairs and plenty of space to put our food and drink. Those four lanes are fit for a King(pin)! So we can also go there to play some bowling. And just like Royal Crest Lanes, it's really fun to enjoy!
So here what I'm planning to do when I return. I'll call my friend Stephanie and maybe we can hang out together. In fact I'll take her to The Pennant and have some lunch or dinner there, then maybe we can stay and go bowling and play some pinball together.
I'll bet Stephanie and I will enjoy that for the very first time. Hey Stephanie, when I finally move back to Lawrence Kansas, I was wondering if we can get together and go to The Pennant. We can play some bowling. If I can come up with a way to hang out with you sooner or later when I return, I'll say it with this. "Let's party!" Stephanie, this one's for you! And I hope that you will love it as much as I will too. Oh and if you like the idea of going to The Pennant with me, maybe we can do a little Monday Movie Madness with me. I've come up with a really good plan for that when I come back.
Now the reason I Stephanie and I chose that place in Topeka is that it's something that I haven't done before in my entire life. Now this is also something that I'd consider trying for the very first time. And get this, the first time going to The Pennant will be like the time I went to Royal Crest Lanes with her to bowl. That one time was when Stephanie and I played Monster Bash at the arcade there. I remember when I saw that Time Crisis 2 game that’s playing on the screen, the 3D graphic animation was like a trailer in the movie screen. (No pun intended.)
Anyway, I can’t wait to try out this place in Topeka. And the way I first see it here in Kansas is like having a party there.
Stephanie, if you're reading this right now. Count me in cause I wanna go with you to The Pennant when I finally return. This is gonna be great! What would that be like do you think?
You know something, that reminds me of the time she and I went bowling at the Jaybowl back in the day. We got plenty of strikes and spares, we played pinball there, did a little air hockey, and we had a really great time. It was also the time we hung out with our friend Daniel Lassman and took him bowling with us too. It was extra fun when we were goofing off. We all needed quality time together, like always. But you know something, I don't have to wait that long. Cause when I come back, we're going bowling once again. Trust me, it'll be more amazing.
And now here's another place that I wanna try out next.
This is something that I wanna consider doing also. Stephanie told me while I'm on a phone call that there's a Jefferson's and a Johnny's Tavern here also in Topeka. And she and I are gonna compare the one in Lawrence Kansas to the ones here in Topeka. Here’s how it’s gonna work out.
We go out to Jefferson’s at 2915 SW Wanamaker Rd. In Topeka the next say we hang out and we compare this with the one at 743 Mass St. in Lawrence.
Like this.
Then on the next day Stephanie and I hang out, we go to Johnny’s Tavern at 2821 SW Fairlawn Rd. in Topeka and compare that to the one at 401 N. 2nd St. in Lawrence.
The comparison for this one also looks like this.
Now once we both do that, I'll come up with my own rating on these comparisons for both Jefferson's and Johnny's Tavern. So here's what I'll be doing when Stephanie and I plan on hanging out together. I give Stephanie a call and we talk, then I ask if we can go out to eat. Next, Stephanie and I will compare the two places. First off, we will go to Johny's Tavern in Topeka and compare to the one in N. Lawrence to the one in Topeka. Then we decide which one is the best. Second when we hang out, we go to Jefferson's in Topeka and compare to the one in Lawrence, and then we'll decide which one was best. It's kinda like playing a special game together.
Now hear me out on this one.
The Blintze Brunch
In Topeka, there's the Temple Beth Sholom where the Blintze Brunch is held at 4200 SW Munson Ave. This might be something that I wanna consider checking out with Stephanie on a special time.
It's the taste of Jewish culture. So what is this thing called the "Blintze Brunch"? Well, it's a food fair extravaganza with songs, singing, and dancing. It happens here every year in April. It's even got a gift shop, a bake sale, and a silent auction. And the best part is, it's even a buffet. According to WIBW's website, it even says that the event has been a space where tradition, connection, and community meet, creating a shared experience that goes beyond the buffet lines. So if you're looking for some brunch for a special occasion, then this one's for you. Stephanie, count me in cause I wonder if there's something in this brunch event that I might really like. Let's get to it.
Round Table Bookstore
Next! Let's talk about the other place in Topeka that haven't been to before. The Round Table Bookstore. It carries new and used book titles on one independent bookshop. It even serves coffee and snacks. So the next time we both hang out together, we should also give this bookstore a try for the first time. Maybe Stephanie and I can play some board games in here, just like the time we did that in Aimee’s Coffeehouse from back in the day. That was fun long time ago. Or maybe we can find some comic books or funny stories there. Just like old times.
So I’ll keep you guys updated on more new places to try out here in Topeka when we hang out, and the next time when I finally come back. Oh and I almost forgot to tell you that Jefferson’s in Topeka has trivia night every week. Made you look!
Okay, so that’s all for now. I’ll be back next time for another story on the next Lawrence Kansas blog. Oh and Stephanie, can you do me a favor? Since you told me about what was going on in Van Go and since it’s still there, can you make a donation for Van Go please? Anyway if you’re reading this blog, I’ll be back to hang out with you guys once I’m finally back in Lawrence Kansas again. Hope to see you again soon. And pretty soon when the holiday season comes, I’m gonna come up with a custom calendar for you. And until later, have a good rest of your day and see you next time on the Lawrence Kansas monthly blog. Peace!
