Going To The Douglas County Fair

Every beginning of August, there’s a place that I always love going to when I was a kid. This place is the Douglas County Fair.

I’ll never forget my first time I went there with my family. We went on all the rides, go down the fun slide, ate some foods, and had a great time. The first time I went was with my mom and dad. My folks really loved it, especially the farm animals in the showcase. It was in the beginning of August and almost the end of July, the day we went there. It was a really fun time to enjoy it for the very first time. If I could reminisce the second time I went there, it would be my dad and I. We would hang out together, go to the fair and do the same thing we did like last year. Oh, and there’s also this thing that I almost forgot to mention earlier. There’s live entertainment. There’s even games, prizes, airbrushed shirts, and plenty more to think of. In the future, I will plan on going back there for old time’s sake. That other time was when I took my stepsister Sarah and Rachel to the fair. Oh man, I’ll forget that time I got into the cyclone ride. I was very dizzy and my hands were shaking. And so does the Zipper ride, I was screaming like a little girl! Yikes! Yeah, those rides were very awesome! My other favorite part of the fair was those funnel cakes I’ve had once. It tasted really good.

I can also remember the time I went inside the Mardi Gras mirrors and funhouse. It was really freaky and a bit more wacky! The hurricane was also fun though, and so does the other rides too. Man, what a blast! Once I get my hands on the Douglas County Fair, I’m not gonna wanna stop it! Seriously! This is some really good stuff!

At the fair, there’s also a demolition derby full of car driving mayhem.

It’s like monster trucks in action ready to destroy the competition. Someday when I go back to the fair, I might be able to check that out for the first time. That would be kinda crazy and a bit more chaotic to watch. But at least it’s really fun to watch in the Douglas County area.

Now when I got in the Douglas County Fair, I remember my money I use to get the tickets for rides, games, and prizes. And the real money is what I used to buy myself some food such as burgers, ribs, snacks, funnel cakes, cotton candy, or soda.

If there was way to see some live entertainment there, I’d see the good folks from Americana Music Academy do a special concert event there. In fact, maybe I’d join in. I would do backup vocals or just play a little percussion. Maybe I’d also play the melodica. Duh!

I even have this other cool idea for the next time I go to the fair. I can contact the fairgrounds office and ask them about a special party to hold for the next party here at the Douglas County Fair. In fact, maybe they'll let us do that indoors. Or maybe at least do that outside where the benches are. Think about it.

I'm talking a mega dance party. And guess what, I'll be the DJ playing the music.

If I were to play something for the Douglas County Fair dance party, it would be my favorite music such as pop music from The B-52’s, Fatboy Slim, Britney Spears, and many other songs. And rock artists such as Don Henley, The Vaughan Brothers, The Commitments, Little Village, The Pretenders, and more. Plus, a little hip hop including DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, MC Hammer, Us3, Lil Romeo, The Cha Cha Slide, Quad City DJs, and others. And some dance music including artists from Scatman John, C&C Music Factory, Icona Pop, Touch & Go, Daft Punk, Eiffel 65, Wang Chung, and many more. Plus some extra songs such as “Electric Pow Wow Drum” by The Halluci Nation, “Sesame’s Treet” by Smart E’s, “Dance With Me Tonight” by The Wonders, “Infinity” by Guru Josh, The Harlem Shake, “I Like It Like That” by The Blackout Allstars, “Follow The Leader” by Soca Boys, “Bounce” by Super Blue, and others too. You know something else, I can even play the Cupid Shuffle for them. In fact, I might even create my own DJ album with samples of cartoons and customize remixes of songs and anything else. I'll use GarageBand to prove it.

Now that would be really cool too!

And if I’d ever wanted to plan a birthday party here at the fairgrounds of Douglas County or have a dance party there for Best Buddies, that would be really cool too.

Anyway, I would just like to say that going to the Douglas County Fair has been a dream to me since I've lived in Lawrence for decades. And I also hope that someday during the summer I'll keep going there for years to come. I wanna keep on going on some rides and winning some prizes. The fairgrounds is calling my name.

If you like my blog about the Douglas County Fair, let me know on the comments below and maybe someday we can plan on going to the Douglas County Fair once I come back to Lawrence again. I'd really like to know what we can do at the fair next. In the meantime, that's it for now. Check back later for the next story in the Lawrence Kansas Monthly Blog. See you real soon and have a nice day. Later!

P.S.

Anyone (my friends) who reads my blog entry about it can take me to the Douglas County Fair for a very special time when I officially come back. More info about planning for the next trip to the fair here in Lawrence Kansas is also included.
